Laser-Ready SVG & DXF —
From Any Image, In Your Browser

Turn photos, logos and drawings into clean vector files your laser can actually follow. Single-path line art, non-overlapping colour layers, and DXF export in millimetres. No uploads, no per-file fees.

Why Laser Users Choose Vector Squid

Most converters output stacked, overlapping shapes that cut twice. We don't.

🔪

Cutout Mode — No Double Cuts

Exclusive pixel masks make every colour layer a standalone, non-overlapping shape. No hidden geometry under darker layers, no double-cut lines.

📐

DXF in Millimetres

DXF export flattens curves at 0.5 mm tolerance and puts each colour on its own named layer — drops straight into CNC, CAD and xTool workflows. (Pro)

✏️

Centerline Tracing

Line Art mode extracts true centerline paths from sketches and stencils — single strokes your laser scores once, not twice around an outline.

🧽

Background Removal Built In

Strip the background before tracing so your cut file contains only the design — no frame-shaped rectangle around everything.

🛠️

Path-Level Cleanup

Delete specks, merge layers, and drop interior details you don't want cut — right in the Refine tab, before you export.

🔒

100% Private, No Per-File Fees

Other laser-prep tools charge per conversion and process your designs in the cloud. Vector Squid is unlimited and never sees your files.

FAQ — Laser Cutting Files

Should I use SVG or DXF for laser cutting?

SVG works directly in Glowforge, xTool Creative Space and LightBurn, and supports both cutting and engraving in one file. DXF is the standard for CNC machines, CAD software and older laser controllers. Vector Squid exports both.

Does the free plan cover laser cutting files?

Yes — unlimited SVG export is free, and SVG is what Glowforge and most modern laser software prefer. DXF and EPS export are Pro features.

How does the DXF export handle curves?

Bezier curves are flattened to polylines with adaptive subdivision at 0.5 mm tolerance — smooth enough for laser and CNC work while staying compatible with every DXF reader. Coordinates are in millimetres and each fill colour becomes a named DXF layer.

What kind of image works best for laser cutting?

High-contrast images with clear silhouettes work best. Line drawings, stencils, logos and bold shapes trace cleanest. Use Line Art mode for single-colour cuts and Logo or Illustration mode with Cutout for layered multi-material designs.

Can I engrave photos with these files?

For photo engraving most laser software rasters a bitmap directly — you don't need a vector. But for score-and-cut outlines around a photo, vectorize with Photo mode and delete the interior paths you don't need in the Refine tab.
